Baltimore Liposuction for Men
We see a lot of men each year who have stubborn fat deposits despite working hard to improve their physique. Liposuction can help you achieve even what a healthy diet and disciplined exercise cannot, permanently removing fat from those stubborn areas and sculpting an improved body shape.
Who can benefit from liposuction?
Any man bothered by unwanted, localized fat bulges can benefit from the permanent fat reduction and sculpting provided by liposuction. Liposuction was the number one cosmetic surgery for men in the United States in 2012. In addition to a better body shape, liposuction can have life-enhancing benefits, including:
- Increased self-confidence that can enhance personal & professional relationships
- Clothing that fits more comfortably & attractively, refining overall appearance
- More motivation to stay fit with a body that better reflects efforts at the gym
What areas can liposuction help to improve?
The most common areas where men have liposuction are the abdomen, flanks, back, chest area, upper arms, and neck. Liposuction can also be used for male breast reduction or to enhance the results of other body or facial contouring procedures.
Liposuction is excellent for removing fat and sculpting a specific area, but it will not address excess overstretched, sagging skin. Men with good skin condition tend to see the best results after liposuction, as their skin contracts to their newly sculpted, leaner form. Body lifting procedures are typically needed to lift and tighten areas with excess skin.
Special techniques for enhanced recovery
Dr. Cohen uses an ultrasound-assisted liposuction technique that uses ultrasonic energy to melt the fat prior to removal. This allows him to use smaller incisions, thinner cannulas to sculpt the area more precisely, and gentler techniques to remove the fat. This advanced technique causes less trauma for reduced swelling and less post-operative discomfort.
Liposuction takes from 1 to 5 hours, depending on the amount of fat and number of areas being treated. Surgery is done on an outpatient basis with either IV sedation or general anesthesia, at our fully accredited surgery center. We always work with board-certified MD anesthesiologists to ensure your safety. Following your surgery, you will be able to rest comfortably at home.
Patients may experience some degree of bruising, swelling, and tenderness, and need to limit activity for the next two days or so following surgery. Most patients return to work within the first week and can return to the gym in about one month. We will give you a compression garment to wear for the first few weeks after surgery; this helps keep any swelling to a minimum and expedites the healing process.
