Cosmetic Surgery Baltimore -
Collagen Injections and Fat Transfer
Indications:
- Facial wrinkles and creases due to normal aging, sun damage, hormonal changes, stress, smoking and everyday facial expressions.
- Loss of fullness in lips due to aging or smoking.
- Acne scarring.
Intended Result:
- To provide contour and definition to specific areas of the face.
- To plump out wrinkles and creases using the patient's own fat.
- To restore fullness in lips.
- To fill in acne scarring.
Procedure Description:
- Collagen Injections - Collagen, a purified animal byproduct, is injected with a small needle just under the skin beneath the wrinkles.
- Fat Transfer - This safe, natural and non-allergenic
procedure is done by performing a minor liposuction technique. Using a
small liposuction cannula attached to a special syringe, fat from a
determined donor site is removed, processed to remove any excess fluids
and then reinjected just under the skin beneath the wrinkle. Enough fat
may be harvested and processed so that it can be stored and used for
future injections.
- Both procedures are done on an outpatient basis in Dr. Cohen's
office. Although the results from fat transfers are longer lasting,
neither procedure offers permanent results and repeat injections are
necessary.
Length of Procedure:
- A Collagen injection may take less than one hour
- Fat injection usually takes about one to two hours, depending on
the areas being treated and if additional fat is being harvested.
Recovery & Aftercare:
- Light activity the day of the procedure.
- Resume normal activity the next day.
- Mild swelling and possible bruising progressively resolve over the first day or two.
Insurance Guidelines:
- Collagen injections and Fat transfers are deemed a cosmetic procedure and are therefore not covered by insurance.
Additional Procedures:
- Patients who want to reduce blemishes and achieve a smoother,
even-toned skin may choose to have an Obagi Blue Peel performed at the
same time as the fat transfer for enhanced results.
Please discuss these additional options with the doctor.
