Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that reduces or reshapes the labia minora (the skin surrounding the vaginal opening).

We invite you to schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Cohen by calling Belcara Health at 410-296-0414

Why have a labiaplasty?

Some women are born with large, thick or irregular labia; other women develop the condition after childbirth or hormonal changes. Enlarged labia minora are visible when the legs are not apart, or are barely separated, sometimes causing embarrassment, self-consciousness, and distancing in relationships. They may be noticeable in tight fitting pants, and can cause discomfort during intercourse, exercise or with clothes.

About the Procedure:

During a labiaplasty, Dr. Cohen will trim the excess labial tissue to recreate the edges of the labia with a natural-looking color and shape. Our surgeons have received special training on advanced surgical techniques which leave no visual or palpable scars on the labia. These superior techniques are unique to the Baltimore area, evidenced by the repair procedures our doctors have performed to correct labia scarring caused by other surgeons. The incisions are closed with absorbable stitches.

This procedure takes approximately 1-2 hours. Labiaplasty is done on an outpatient basis with a light sedation or general anesthesia. Because safety is our first concern, our surgeons always use board certified anesthesiologists to ensure your surgery is as safe as possible. Following surgery, you will be able to rest in the comfort of your own home.

Insurance Guidelines:

This procedure is usually considered cosmetic and therefore is not covered by insurance.

**Note: The specific risks and the suitability of this procedure for any given individual can only be determined through a consultation with a plastic surgeon.
