Male Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) creates a fresher, younger, more rested look and improves peripheral vision. By removing excess or sagging skin and fat deposits under the eye, the “tired” look and puffiness both above and below the eye is eliminated by eyelid surgery.

About the Procedure:

Your plastic surgeon will make an incision along the natural lines and creases of the eyelids. This enables the doctor to remove excess skin, fat, and muscle, if indicated. The incisions are then closed with very fine sutures.

A blepharoplasty can take from one to three hours, depending on the complexity of the procedure. Eyelid surgery is done on an outpatient basis with general or local anesthesia. Because safety is our first concern, we always work with board-certified anesthesiologists to ensure that your surgery is as safe as possible. Following your surgery, you will be able to rest in the comfort of your own home.

Results:

Eyes will be more open for a more energetic, alert and youthful appearance. Proper peripheral vision will be restored through the removal of excess skin. Many eyelid surgery patients experience an overall increase of self image following the surgery.

Recovery & Aftercare:
  • Patients may experience some degree of bruising and swelling that progressively improves over 10 to 14 days.
  • Bed rest the day of surgery.
  • Limited activity for the next three to five days following surgery.
  • Avoid strenuous activities for about one to two weeks.
  • Return to work within seven to 10 days.
Additional Procedures:
  • A Browlift, Facelift, Mini facelift, or Laser surgery may be performed in conjunction with the blepharoplasty procedure.
  • Non surgical procedures may include BOTOX Cosmetic® injections or injectable fillers.
  • Please discuss these additional options with the doctor.
Insurance Guidelines:

Blepharoplasty is usually deemed cosmetic unless the original indication for surgery was for visual field obstruction or sagging (ptosis). Our office will work with your insurance company to determine the scope of your benefits.

**NOTE: The specific risks and the suitability of this procedure for any given individual can only be determined through a consultation with the plastic surgeon.
