Implant Size: What’s Right for You?

Breast Augmentation surgery enables a woman to choose the breast size that will best suit her particular needs. And “how big to go” is not an easy decision.

Women today have more options than ever before in choosing comfortable, safe, natural-looking implants. Your first step should be to schedule a consultation with Dr. Michael Cohen or Dr. Larry Lickstein. Breast implants come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The type of implant you chose should be based on your desired change in profile and cleavage along with other factors such as placement, surface texture, shape and individual anatomical considerations to name a few.

Though Summer is still a few months away, many women are contemplating breast enhancement surgery now, so they’ll be ready to look their best in their Summer sundresses.

“March is a perfect time for breast augmentation,” admits Dr. Cohen. “Patients’ hectic holiday schedules are behind them, and the lousy weather makes it easier to stay indoors and rest up for a full recovery. Plus, having surgery now means that you’ll be able to show off your results just in time for the warmer weather.”

The Non-Cosmetic Benefits of a Breast Reduction

We’ve told you about the remarkable impact breast reduction surgery can have on the health and comfort of smaller-framed women. And now, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons have presented evidence that women of all sizes can reduce their risk of back problems with this procedure.

Evidence presented at ASPS conference in October 2009 shows that women who underwent breast reduction surgery for macromastia (overly large breasts) were then able to perform more dynamic movements and better withstand static positions.

But perhaps most important is the reduction in spine stress and other kinds of pain, such as that from deep grooves on the shoulder from overworked bra straps.

Tummy Tucks: When Dieting Isn’t Enough

With more and more Americans losing ever larger amounts of weight, abdominoplasty has become an essential end to many diets.

That’s because, despite the strictest diet and exercise programs, many people aren’t able to firm the skin around the abdomen. Others have loose abdominal skin following a heavy weight loss or pregnancy. That’s when abdominoplasty can be used to slim and firm the tummy.

This procedure, also known as a “tummy tuck”, removes excess skin that has lost its elasticity. It may also help reduce fat, tighten abdominal muscles and improve the appearance of stretch marks. This provides a more contoured stomach and well-defined waistline.

Liposuction, Arm Lifts, and Thigh Lifts Improve Sagging

Aging and massive weight loss can have drastic effects on the elasticity of skin cells and how fat is stored and lost. Unfortunately, exercise and diet alone won’t be able to trim and tighten everything that you’d like. In many cases, cosmetic surgery is the only option to reverse the effects of time and physical stress that was put upon the body.

Body lift procedures target specific areas of the body that remain resistant to diet and exercise, refining and sculpting them to look more aesthetically pleasing.

Many Options For Wrinkle Reduction

Wrinkles are a tell-tale sign of age – but they don’t have to be. The Cosmetic Surgery Center of Maryland offers several different ways to quickly and easily smooth away facial lines and folds including Botox Cosmetic, dermal fillers and laser treatment.

FDA-approved to reduce facial lines and wrinkles, Botox Cosmetic is a neuromodulator used to soften dynamic lines. These are wrinkles that form in areas where the muscles expand and contract, such as in the browline. Once injected into the muscle, Botox blocks the release of the chemical transmitter acetylcholine, gently putting the muscle to rest and preventing the formation of dynamic wrinkles in this area.

Silicone Breast Implants Are Back

In November 2006, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) approved silicone gel-filled breast implants for women ages 22 and older.

Although silicone implants are used widely abroad, they were pulled from the U.S. market in 1992 on concerns that ruptured or leaking implants could lead to various diseases.

New research, however, indicates that silicone implants are safer than previously believed.

Study Shows Women Are More Prone To Facial Wrinkles Than Men

Findings from a new study published in the November/December issue of Aesthetic Surgery Journal (ASJ), a publication of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), suggest that gender-specific differences in the perioral skin (skin surrounding the mouth) account for more and deeper skin wrinkling in women than in men.

The study, conducted by a team of plastic surgeons from the Netherlands, was presented at the annual meeting of the European Association of Plastic Surgeons last May in Barcelona, Spain.

Use Botox To Regain Your Beauty

It’s important to know the difference between Botox and fillers (Botox stops the muscle contractions; fillers plump up the furrows), but it’s even more important to emphasize that in trained hands, Botox is used in an artistic fashion to restore a more youthful appearance to the face.

A relatively painless procedure, Botox injections are virtually downtime free. Muscle actions play a big role in aging around the eyes, as contractions lead to initial dynamic wrinkles followed by more permanent lines; Botox is great for stopping crow’s-feet and the vertical frown lines between the brows, and it prevents the muscle movement that leads to fine lines and furrows. The treatment can also be used as an “injectable browlift,” to slightly elevate the brow and eliminate horizontal lines across the forehead to help the upper face look younger and more relaxed.
